candy glass

Monday night we made these ornaments with Jolly Ranchers candy. It was a little messy and I wondered if it would be worth it but they did turn out pretty.

They are very pretty! How did you make them?

We wrapped the bottoms and insides of cookie cutters with foil, put the candies in, melted them in the oven, and then cooled. Sounds easy but it's a bit tricky peeling the foil off.

I would do a couple trial ones first before sticking a bunch in. Make the aluminum on the inside as smooth as possible because it's hard to get it off the candy otherwise. And make sure you have enough candy inside each cookie cutter otherwise it will crack while you try to get it out of the cutter.

I bought a huge bag of Jolly Ranchers pretty cheap at Walmart. I know that's one of your favorite places to shop, Karen, so you probably already knew about that deal...

It is so funny that Americans have Christmas stuff already. The stores has stuff now but people won't be putting theirs up untill after Sint Nicolaas leaves on the 5th. I am so integrated.

If you very light wipe pam on the aluminum, the candies pull off easier.

I have a recipe for sugar cookies where you punch a hole in the center using a doughnut cutter and then fill the center with jolly ranchers. They were pretty but (for me) almost impossible to get the cookie off the pan without breaking it because the candy stuck.

Auntie, I know what you mean. When I was in Minnesota the week before Thanksgiving there was a line to see SANTA already! Here, with no ads, no commercials, and very few stores putting anything Christmas-y out (not to mention the weather) it's easy to forget Christmas is coming.

One of Ava's good friends is Dutch and she is very jealous that Sint Nicolaas is coming so early. When I tried to tell her that's maybe how Santa gets all the way around the world in one night (by doing some people early) she didn't buy it at all. She knows Loes is getting presents from the Christmas Day Santa as welL!
